A suspected kidnapper who was apprehended by police in Ogun State for allegedly abducting a private school pupil has said that he learned how to kidnap from Nollywood actor Zubby Michael movies.
On November 16, 2021, the 23-year-old suspect, Ayobamidele Kudus Ayodele, kidnapped the six-year-old boy from his school in Lagos’ Ojo Alaba neighbourhood and held him captive for four days until a ransom of N550,000 was paid.

“Zubby Michael is my favorite Nollywood actor and he is amazing at playing kidnapping roles in movies,” Ayodele told Vanguard News. I decided to put some of Zubby’s methods for kidnapping children and adults in the movies to the test.

“I began by visiting many schools in the Ojo area to see if I could pick pupils without being noticed. I went to a school near Alaba Market on November 16, 2021, and stayed at the gate.
“I noticed two school children on their way to school. One of them was walking with a cane in his hand. I came to a halt in front of them and began conversing with them. I seized the cane and inquired as to where he purchased it. I told him to take me there when he mentioned the place.”

“I told him I was going to get him some chocolates and biscuits.”
“I took the child to a hotel in Ilogbo Eremi, Lagos, to avoid drawing attention to myself. I contacted his father and requested another N2 million from him. We stayed for four days before his family was able to raise the sum of N550,000.”
“Because he had access to my phone, which had various games installed on it, the child remained quiet throughout the duration of his stay.”
“I apologise for inflicting such anguish to his family. I’m not a cultist or a thief with a gun. I don’t belong to a gang. I simply practiced by watching Zubby Michael movies. My parents did an excellent job of raising me; I was just impatient and greedy.”
