Three of the four suspected killers of Mrs Funke Olakunri, the 58-year-old daughter of the Yoruba socio-political group’s national leader, have been condemned to death by hanging by an Ondo State High Court.
They include Muhammed Shehu Usman, Adamu Adamu, and Lawal Mazaje.
Justice Williams Olamide found the three accused guilty of conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery.
However, the fourth defendant, Auwalu Abubakar, 25, was released and acquitted of conspiracy charges.
Recall that the police also alleged that the suspects also murdered one Ogunbiyi Matthew aged 65 and also kidnapped one Gerald Igboayaka the same day Funke Olakunri was murdered along Ore-ljebu Ode Expressway on July 12, 2019.

Olufunke was shot and killed on the Ondo/Ore Highway between Kajola and Ore on July 12th, 2019.
in April 2020, the Ondo State Government charged the suspects in a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure.
The news came less than a week after police officers announced their arrest. They were detained, according to Frank Mba, the then-Force Public Relations Officer, after police discovered enough physical and forensic evidence linking them to her death.
He went on to say that on April 8, the investigators held an Identification Parade in Lagos, which resulted in the affirmative and physical identification of three of them by a survivor of a previous incident.
According to him, the survivor detailed the roles that each of them played in the murder.
“At this point, they capitulated and voluntarily offered a no-holds-barred confession on how Mrs Funke Olakunrin was killed,” he said as of then.
