A 28-year-old South African woman is due to appear in court today in Taung Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder of her 1-year-old daughter.
Her court appearance is related to an event that occurred late on Friday, March 11th, 2022, according to the South African Police Service.

The police revealed that the 28-year-old woman was allegedly seen leaving her home in Dryharts with her 1 year-old baby girl, but subsequently returned alone, according to the grandparents.

When questioned about her child’s whereabouts, she was unable to provide any meaningful explanation. This promted the grandparents to contact the police.
After thorough investigation and search operations, the baby’s lifeless body was found in an open bushy area on Saturday afternoon, March 12th, 2022.
The newborn looked to have a knife wound in her neck, according to preliminary investigation.
The SA Police wrote in a statement that;
“The grandparents allegedly reported that they saw the 28-year-old mother leaving the house in Dryharts with her 1-year-old baby, but returned alone later. Upon questioning her about the whereabouts of her child, she could not give any explanation and the police were contacted.
“Subsequent investigations led the police to an open bushy area, where the body of the baby was found on Saturday afternoon, 12 March 2022. Preliminary investigation revealed that baby had what appeared to be a stab wound in her neck. The baby was declared dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics.”
