Elizabeth Abu, a woman from Kogi State, have been held in police custody for allegedly burning her stepson with a hot electric iron.
The event was corroborated by Hajia Fatima Kabir Buba, the Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, on Tuesday morning, who said the victim (David Mathew Ewongolu) was maltreated by her stepmother for using part of her clothing material to construct a duster.

The suspect admitted to the incident after a thorough interrogation by Buba’s ministry, claiming “she did not intend to inflict such pain on the child.”

The boy is currently being treated at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja, she added.
“The Ministry of Women Affairs will continue to work with the Nigeria Police Force and its legal team to ensure that the mistreated victim receives justice.” This is absolute depravity. How can a lady use a hot electric iron to burn another human being?
“Just because the child isn’t her biological son doesn’t give her the right to treat him in this manner.” We will pursue this case to its logical conclusion and guarantee that young David Mathew Ewongolu receives justice in a court of law. She stated, “The law of the land must take its course.”
Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration has zero tolerance for child abuse, according to the Commissioner, who also stressed that guardians and parents must take great care in developing their children to become responsible citizens in society.
