It was a black Sunday yesterday as Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the Nigerian senator who represents Anambra South senatorial district, was ambushed by unknown gunmen at Enugwu Ukwu in the Njikoka local government area of the state.
According to reports, three police escorts and some of his aides were confirmed dead after the ambush attack.
Reports emanating from multiple sources said the senator was agitated and upset following his close shave with death.
According to a witness, the senator was injured during the incident, which some people claimed was an attempt at assassinating the senator from the Young Peoples Party (YPP).

An eyewitness said: “Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy came under attack in Enugwu Ukwu this evening. He was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy. Some of his aides were killed, including some police officers.
“Senator Ifeanyi Ubah managed to escape as his car was riddled with bullets.
“I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did”.
Meanwhile, Anambra state police command has reacted to the unfortunate incident that took many by surprise.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement said: “The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Echeng Echeng has led operatives to the scene where sporadical shootings took place in Enugwu Ukwu. “Though the details of the incident is still sketchy, operatives are on ground there as operations is going on and the situation is being monitored.
“Further details shall be communicated please“.
