Video: Residents desert Aba streets as UGM move about undisturbed

There was palpable fear in some parts of Aba, Abia State, when the so-called “unknown gunmen” (UGM) took to the street to search for defaulters of their sit-at-home order.

Aba, a city in Abia State, South East Nigeria, and also the commercial centre of Abia State, have reportedly being beseiged by UGM in recent months making life unbearable for innocent citizens and security agents.

In the video recently obtained by Gallant Military Info, about a dozen armed men marched through the streets in Aba. They all covered their faces, bearing weapons including machetes, axes, knives and charms.

The gang can be heard warning the residents that they would unleash violence if the sit-at-home directive was not complied with.

One of the hoodlums said; “they say Aba people no dey hear, don’t worry, for this month, we go stay for Aba.”

Another one said; “Dem go hear today, we don come inside Aba, this na special squad.”

As can be seen in the video, the whole street had been deserted by residents and security agents probably following reports that hoodlums would enforce the sit-at-home order, declared by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in protest against incarceration of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Gallant Military Info gathered that the UGM had designated a number of days in May when people were not allowed to go out.

Mondays, Nnamdi Kanu court days (17, 18, 26), Children’s Day (27), Inauguration Day (previously Democracy Day) on the 29th, and Biafra Day which is the 30th of May are among the days.

UGM, according to the Nigerian military, is the same as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Despite the Nigerian security agencies’ efforts to rid the South Eastern region of the criminals, they seem to be multiplying and committing more atrocities each day.

Hardly will a day pass by without someone being killed or security infrastructure being attacked by the UGM.
