Troops fighting against IPOB/ESN Terrorists’ in the South East, yesterday, neutralized two (2) terrorists in gun battles while four (4) others were captured alive and various assorted weapons were recovered.
Giving details of the confrontations, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said, “on April 25, 2022, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 34 Artillery Brigade neutralized two gunmen and captured four other members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN) In a vicious fire battle along Orlu – Orsu Road.”
He said that the Troops were on routine patrol when they came into contact with members of the IPOB/ESN in the General area of the Aluminium Company and All Saints Church.

According to him, when the criminal elements saw the patrol team, they opened fire and launched a grenade attack on the troops. However, due to the superior firepower of the Nigerian troops, two (2) of the IPOB/ESN terrorists were gunned down, forcing the remainder to leave in disarray.

However, four (4) of the fleeing gunmen were apprehended and one AK 47 rifle, two magazines, one Police grenade launcher, two Baofeng communication radios, five mobile phones, one IPOB Beret, two motorcycles, four SIM cards, five wallets containing different ID cards, afrodisiac, charms, and the sum of Sixteen Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Naira only were recovered.

Preliminary investigations into the suspects’ cellphones showed graphic images and recordings of cold-blooded killings, bodies displayed in shrines, and other horrible crimes committed by the perpetrators.

The statement by the Nigerian Army reads;
“The troops, while on routine patrol made contact with elements of IPOB/ESN around the general area of Aluminium Company and All Saints Church. On sighting the patrol team, the criminal elements opened fire and launched grenade attack on the troops.
“The vigilant troops responded with superior firepower neutralizing two of the criminal elements, compelling others to flee in disarray. In a hot pursuit that followed the encounter, troops arrested four of the fleeing gunmen and recovered one AK 47 rifle, two magazines, one Police grenade launcher, two Baofeng communication radios, five mobile phones, one IPOB Beret, two Motorcycles, four SIM cards, five wallets containing different ID cards, afrodisiac, charms and the sum of Sixteen Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Naira only.
“Preliminary investigation on the suspects’ mobile phones reveals gory pictures and videos depicting scenes of cold blooded murders, corpses displayed in shrines and other heinous atrocities committed by the criminals.”
