The Nigerian Army has increased the intensity of its clearance operations to drive out terrorist remnants on the outskirts of Lake Chad and other parts of the Northeast, in keeping with its desire to bring the war to a conclusion and restore total peace in the country.

As a result of the ongoing operations in the war-torn North East, thousands of insurgents, including combatants, non-combatants, and foot soldiers, as well as their families, have continued to lay down their arms and accept peace.

Since 2009, Boko Haram has been fighting in northeast Nigeria. It has launched attacks in Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, prompting a miylitary response. The group has also fractured, with one side declaring loyalty to ISIS.
