Some commercial sex workers in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, were arrested by security agents who were led by the Executive Chairman of Lokoja local government Hon. Mohammed Dan’asabe Mohammed FIICA and the Director General (DG) Bureau of Land Kogi State following state government’s order shutting down brothels in the city.

Comr. Abubakar Muhammed CPS to the Executive Chairman Lokoja local government, who was also part of the team that monitored the enforcement of the government’s directive, said In a statement that the decision was aimed towards ensuring total security of lives and properties in the State.

Abubakar said Governor Yahaya Bello had given an executive order to shutdown brothels located in the capital city.

The state government alleged that the brothels and joints had been turned into a hideout for hoodlums from where they perpetrate crime and other social vises.

The statement reads in part;
“The Executive Chairman of Lokoja local government Hon. Mohammed Dan’asabe Mohammed FIICA alongside the Director General (DG) Bureau of Land Kogi State on the implementation of the Executive Order as given by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kogi State towards ensuring total security of lives and properties in the State.
“The closure is as a result of the BROTHELS (Ashawo House) which criminals use as hideout and perpetrate crime and other social vises.”
