Tony Akpan, a school bus driver, was reportedly sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a five-year-old pupil by a Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court.
In her ruling, Justice Abiola Soladoye stated that the prosecution had presented overwhelming evidence against Tony Akpan and his accomplice, assistant school bus driver, Itoro Wilson.
Wilson was also given a two-year jail term for helping the convict to evade justice.
“The court is confronted with overwhelming evidence. The survivor’s testimony is accurate and confidently narrated by her.
“The medical doctor’s testimony backed up what she had claimed.
“The first defendant is hereby found guilty as charged, in violation of Section 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, and sentenced to life imprisonment.”
“The first defendant’s name should be recorded on the Lagos State Government’s Sex Offenders Register,” she said.
The Judge also stated that the second defendant should have spoken up rather than kept quiet.

“The sentence imposed on this perpetrator will act as a deterrent to others.”
“The second defendant is sentenced to two years in jail for a felony,” says the judge.
The survivor’s school, Roy Mind Favour Filled School, Unilag Estate, Magodo Isheri, was charged by the Judge to employ responsible staff in the future.
“The school in question needs to hire responsible employees.”
“The parents must get good value for their money.” Any respectable school should not have miscreants on its payroll.
The judge stated, “Children are expected to be protected and not subjected to any form of assault.”
Five witnesses testified against the defendants at the trial before this decision.
Mr Olusola Shoneye, Mrs Olufunke Adegoke, and Ms. Abimbola Abolade, from the prosecution team, claimed the convicts committed the crime on Magodo Road in Isheri, Lagos, on October 20, 2017.
The prosecution further claimed that the offense violated sections 137 and 415 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
