Hundreds of Ukrainian forces were killed in the early confrontations, according to officials, when the fight came at them from all sides at once. Official numbers placed the dead toll at 40, with ‘dozens’ of people injured. From east to west, cruise missiles, guided bombs, and GRAD rockets targeted airfields, military bases, ammo dumps, and command posts, including the capital.
