Chika Ebbelugu, a 36-year-Old armed robber was arrested during a robbery operation in Ojo, Lagos, while having sexual intercourse with the daughter of his victim.
He was recently arraigned in a magistrates’ court and charged with rape, attempted murder, and armed robbery.
If proven guilty, the suspect will be sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in prison under the Lagos State Government’s sexual abuse law.
According to the police, the accused abandoned a robbery operation that he and other fleeing members of his gang embarked on in order to engage in sexual intercourse with the daughter of one of his victims.
The event occurred on March 5, 2022, on Akeem Lawal Street, off Imude Road, in the Shibiri district of Lagos, according to the prosecutor, Insp Ekpo Edet.
According to the prosecutor, the accused and members of his gang broke into the victims’ home, but were not happy with the property they robbed, so they decided to rape the daughter of the house.
“It was during the process that the victim’s father summoned courage and descended on the accused,” Insp Edet added.
The others fled, and with the help of neighbors, the accused was arrested.”
Laptops, phones, cash, and other valuables were among the items stolen, according to the police.
The accused, on the other hand, has pled not guilty to the accusations.
Mr T. A. Popoola, the magistrate, granted him bail in the amount of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount, and the case was adjourned until April 23.
