The Police Command in Kano State has arrested 198 suspects for major offences which include; Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Car Theft, Fraud, Thuggery (Daba), Drug Abuse, etc, in the past 24 days, most of whom have been charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Dikko, said this while parading the suspects on Thursday at Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.

Dikko said the suspects were arrested at different times and locations in the state between Jun. 06 and July 21.
He explained that those arrested included; 42 Armed Robbery Suspects, 9 Kidnapping Suspects, 16 Suspected Fraudsters, 2 Human Trafficking Suspects, 27 Motor Vehicles and Tricycles Thieves, 12 Suspected Drug Dealers, and 92 Suspected Thugs (‘Yan Daba).

The command, he said, recovered; Twenty-Five (25) Rifles, including Three (3) AK-47s, One (1) Micro Uzi, One (1) Pistol, One (1) Pump Action, Ten (10) locally made Pistols and Nine (9) Den Guns.

Other items recovered are;
ii. Twelve (12) Motor Vehicles
iii. Seven (7) Tricycles and Three (3) Motorcycles
iv. One Hundred and Twenty-Two (122) Knives
v. Ninety-Six (96) Other Rod-made Sharp Weapons
vi. Two Hundred and Sixty-Nine (269) Parcels and Two Hundred and Sixty-Five (265) Wraps of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp valued Two Million, Seven Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira (N2,725,000:00)
vii. Seventy-Four (74) Bottles of Suck and Die Substance
viii. Two Hundred and Eighty (280) Pieces of Exol Tablets
ix. Four (4) Computer Laptops
x. One Hundred and Thirty-Four (134) Mobile Phones
xi. Sixteen (16) Plasma TV.

Dikko said the achievements recorded was “In line with Policing theme “to protect with courage and serve with compassion” and the directives of IGP Alkali Baba Usman, on Community-based Policing and delivery of quality Police service to restore Police primacy and bequeath to the Nation a modernized, Citizen-led, rule of law-guided and professional Police Force that Nigerians can truly trust and depend on to achieve the Policing mandate.

“In our effort to effectively Police Kano State, we intensify Community Policing engagements, constant raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, Intelligence-led and Visibility Policing, rapid response to distress calls, full adherence to the ethics of the Force and synergy with sister security agencies and community policing stakeholders,” he said.
According to him, most of the suspects have been charged to court.
While commending the state government for its support, Dikko solicited for the prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation of residents, other security agencies and various corperate bodies to enable it protect lives and properties in the state.
