A Nigerian soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in Gashua, a community in Yobe State in northeastern Nigeria.
Lance Corporal Jubrin, reportedly shot himself after being discovered to be colluding with Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
According to Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in Lake Chad, military sources claimed Jubril’s activities became suspicious when he vanished from his duty post for two days.
The source revealed that the Nigerian soldier was however sighted among the Boko Haram terrorists that attacked a small bar in Gaidam where about 9 people were allegedly killed on the 21st of April, 2022.

Based on this, his Commanding Officer, one Lt. Col. Mikah, tracked his phone and he was located at a point in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area, which is about a hundred kilometer from his supposed duty post.

Again, in Gashua, another bar was attacked, resulting in one person being killed and seven others being injured, and the same Jubril was thought to be one of the coordinators, according to the source.
It was after this that a signal was sent to the Army base in Gashua, and dragnets were spread out to catch him.
Jibrin, sensing danger, disguised himself and took a bus going to Gombe state on Tuesday morning, but was arrested at a checkpoint in Gashua.

Jubrin was detained and handcuffed and while he was being taken back to Geidam, he used his talents as a weapon instructor to take a gun from one of the escorts, overpowered the other, and shot himself, according to reports.
However, his statements during his detention and interrogation led to the arrest of several of his terror-brothers in the military Service.
Before becoming a weapons instructor, Jibrin, a Babur from Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, served in the Intelligence Corps.
