Nigerian Senator narrowly escapes death as angry mob attacks convoy, set vehicles on fire (Photos)

Prof. Nora Ladi Dadu’ut, the Senator representing Plateau South, and 14 journalists, as well as several of her aides, narrowly escaped death on Thursday when their convoy was stopped by an angry mob in Namu community in Plateau State’s Quaan Pan Local Government Area.

The unfortunate incident occurred shortly after the Senator opened an ICT Centre/E-Library in the village, leaving the vehicle of the NUJ Plateau State Council burnt and the pilot vehicle belonging to the Senator severely damaged. 

GallantMilitary learned that on Thursday afternoon, a group of people invaded the village and abducted four residents.

The enraged youths, reacting to the abduction of their colleagues, blocked the Senator’s convoy and began burning tires, demanding that the Senator work out a deal for the return of the four persons before she is released.

According to reports, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon Musa Gyang, the Director General of ICT Plateau State, Mr. David Dasar, and some of the Senator’s aides were among those trapped in the village.

Traditional rulers who attended the occasion were unable to settle the situation since the youths were very determined in their demands.

However, the senator managed to flee the angry mob a few hours after Operation SAFE HAVEN troops arrived in the area.

For this reason, the authorities of Plateau State’s Quaan Pan Local Government Council revealed that a dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed in Namu town and its surrounding communities with immediate effect, following an assessment of security breaches in Namu on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by Hon Gideon Godenaan Dashe, Secretary of Plateau State’s Quaan Pan Local Government Council, Citizens in the vicinity are advised to stay indoors till further notice, as security officers have been dispatched to the town.

Citizens were also urged to follow the law and avoid taking any actions that would result in more violations, they stressed.
