The Nigerian police Force Intelligence Bureau Special Tactical Squad (FIB-STS) has recently arrested thirty (30) people for their roles in crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, arms smuggling, unlawful possession of prohibited guns, auto theft, rape, and receiving stolen items.
The arrest of Ahmed Yunusa, dubbed “Yellow Ashana,” a 36-year-old commander of a notorious bandit group that has terrorized towns and road users along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, is notable among the cases.
Yellow Magaji aka Arushe, the culprit who had been on the run following a police operation that resulted in the killing of a member of his syndicate, was apprehended during a sting operation by FIB-STS police agents.
The suspect admitted that he was the leader of a group that carried out many kidnappings on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway and three separate attacks on Kadara Community in Kaduna State, killing scores of people.
He also admitted to the kidnapping and killing of one Hafsat Isah, who was lured into the bandit camp by her friend, Ladi Sale, who was also apprehended by the police.

Another notable criminal that was arrested by the police is Mrs Nvou Michael, a 37-year-old woman from Vom LGA in Plateau State.
She was also apprehended by security agents on the Samminaka/Jos road in Kaduna State, with 15 locally made guns and 400 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK47 ammunition in a Toyota Hummer bus traveling from Jos, Plateau State to Kaduna State.
The suspect was an arms smuggler for several bandit organizations in Kaduna State, according to investigations.
Similarly, Nuhu Yakubu, a 33-year-old man from Donga, Taraba State, was apprehended while transporting 1,500 AK47 ammo from Wukari to robbers in the Donga Forest.
Idris Abdulwahab, 26, and Adams Ibrahim, 37, both from Okene, Kogi State, were also linked to big bank robbery activities in Ondo State and in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, where they killed a security guard in 2021.
The suspects were apprehended by eagle-eyed police agents at a check point in Isonu, Kogi State, where they specialize in using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to violently gain entrance into banks for their robbery activities.
According to the police, the duo were on their way to Okene from their hiding place in the forest. They were caught with one million, eight hundred and eighty thousand Naira (N1,880,000) cash.
While assuring the nation that the Force will continue to focus on criminal elements who pose a threat to national security, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, calls on well-meaning members of the public to readily assist the police with information in order to effectively combat the perpetrators of violent crimes in the society.
