Nigerian Army Troops of Exercise GOLDEN DAWN Sector 3 in the early hours of Sunday morning foiled a kidnap attempt of Most Reverend Augustine Ukwuoma at the Orlu Diocesan Catholic Secretariat, BSC Road, Orlu, Imo State.

According to a statement released by the Director Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Onyema Nwachukwu and published on the Nigerian Army Facebook page, the incident took place around 02.30am on Sunday morning.
The statement revealed that troops responded to a distress call in the early hours of Sunday morning and on arriving at the scene, the criminals took to their heels.
The statement reads; “The troops in response to a distress call at about 2:30am on Sunday 31 October 2021, swiftly moved to the scene forcing the assailants to take to their heels thereby abandoning their mission.”
It was further revealed that the Bishop and his two assistants are safe and unhurt.
While trying to force their way into the residence of the Bishop, the criminals damaged some parts of the building and upon entry, they ransacked the whole apartment. See photos of the damages below;

The Army also revealed that it will continue to work to check-mate the activities of IPOB/ESN and other criminal gangs operating within the area. This has become necessary especially now that the Anambra State elections is around the corner.
It would be recalled that a few days ago, The ICIR reported that IPOB had threatened to disrupt the forthcoming election. The group are also planning to impose a compulsory sit-at-home order during the election.
Reacting to this, the Army said in the statement that the group is only trying to intimidate, steal and kidnap law-abiding citizens for ransom. Therefore, members of the public are being warned to be extremely vigilant and report any suspicious movement of criminal elements, especially those of the outlawed IPOB/ESN to law enforcement agencies.
