The Nigerian Army says that troops have successfully overran IPOB/ESN’s hideout in Anambra State.
The Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General. Onyema Nwachukwu, said this in a statement released by the Nigerian Army on the 18th of January, 2022.

Nwachukwu said troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) has dislodged a notorious stronghold of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), at Lilu Forest in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a joint operation with other security services.

Lilu, he said, is a border town between Imo and Anambra States, and was once known to be utilized as IPOB/ESN’s operational base.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Monday, January 17th, 2022 resulted in the neutralization of some IPOB/ESN gunmen in the ensuing firefight.
The determined Nigerian troops according to the statement recovered 10 Pump Action Shotguns, two locally built firearms, one Revolver pistol, 7.62 mm special ammunition, live cartridges, machettes, and IPOB flags after dislodging the dissidents from their citadel.

Mobile phones, laptops, and other deadly weapons were also among the items recovered.

The operation was carried out by forces from the Nigerian Navy’s 82 Division, the Nigerian Air Force’s 211 Quick Response Group, the Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Police.

It was a well-coordinated dawn attack on the stronghold, where plans were being finalized to violently implement the irredentist organizations’ unlawful sit-at-home statement.
