NAF airstrikes hit Lake Chad terrorist training camp, kill over 70 ISWAP terrorists

The Nigeria Air Force, NAF, has reportedly pounded an ISWAP location in the Lake Chad region with NAF airstrikes killing not fewer than 70 iswap terrorists in the area.

The Nigerian air force announced on Saturday that it had killed more than 70 Islamic State-affiliated fighters (ISWAP terrorists) near the Niger Republic’s border in the Lake Chad region.

The air bombardment was carried out by fighter jets belonging to both Nigeria and the Niger Republic’s military according to the statement.

The Lake Chad region is well-known for housing Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) members, a terrorist group that has been active since 2016.

The two organizations, along with its older opponents Boko Haram, have killed over 40,000 people in the last decade, and over two million people have been displaced from their homes as a result of the continuous bloodshed.

“The bombardment was undertaken on 13 April 2022 after the military specifically spotted a big number of terrorists, a likely logistical camp,” stated Edward Gabkwet, a spokesman for the Air Force.

“Therefore, on April 14, they used aircraft from both Nigeria and Niger to carry out airstrikes against Tumbun Rego and a neighboring training camp,” he stated in the statement.

He said that “over 70 ISWAP terrorists were either killed or severely injured.”

The military often ramps up its offensive at this time of the year, before the rainy season starts.

Thousands of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists , including combatants, non-combatants, and foot soldiers, as well as their families, have continued to lay down their arms and accept peace as a result of the continuous military bombardment in the war torn North East.

Boko Haram has been fighting in northeast Nigeria since 2009. Its attacks have spread to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, eliciting a military response. The group has also become splintered, with one faction pledging allegiance to ISIL (ISIS).
