Meet Muazu Alhaji Misiya, a former banker who quit his job to join the fight aginst Boko Haram

Many people are interested in having a career in banking. Many are ready to give up everything in order to work in the banking sector. Some people prefer working in this environment. But others don’t.

Some people are not built to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses talking about mission statements.

But no matter the stress that is associated with a banking job, no one will give up his work as a banker to join the military in the war front, especially where the battle is the fiercest.

It would be hard for someone to leave the comfort of his office in order to join the military in fighting against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

This is the case of Muazu Alhaji Misiya, who was a banker but later abandoned his banking job to join the ranks of the Civilian Joint Task Force fighting alongside the military against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.

Alhaji Misiya left his job at one of the leading banks in Nigeria in May 2016 to join the vigilante movement in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency, and he was part of the joint effort which liberated many towns and villages from the grasp of Boko Haram.

He has been a notable member of the Civilian Joint Task Force since then accompanying the Nigerian Military on many dangerous battles.

Alhaji Misiya said in one of his interviews that he never regretted leaving his job as a banker. He also noted that money his not the motivation behind his decision, stating that he has his own personal business while he was in the banking sector and the business is still up and running till this day.

Obviously, he’s doing it for humanity.

He took part in many operations led by the late Colonel Abu Ali where he proved his commitment, valor, fighting spirit and gallantry.

He has been on battlefield for years just to see his home state of Borno liberated from the grasp of Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents.

This is indeed a sacrifice that is unquantifiable.

Kudos to this man for leaving his comfort zone to fight so that you and I can sleep with both our eyes closed.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian or a banker, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humour in it all. He has seen more suffering and deaths than he should have in his short lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He is our nation’s Fighting Man that has kept this country free and defended your right to Freedom. He has experienced deprivation and adversity, and has seen his buddies falling to bullets and maimed and blown.

May God reward him and all those who made a sacrifice for Nigeria to have a peace.
