MJTF Rescues ABU Student Who Was Abducted By Boko Haram In 2020 (VIDEO)

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) of Borno State have reportedly rescued a female ABU Student identified as Becky Inuwa, who has been held hostage by Islamist militant sect, Boko Haram, since 2020.

Becky was allegedly rescued along with 5 other women in April, 2022, by the MNJTF during a gun battle with their captors in the Lake Chad region.

She was reportedly abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on Maiduguri road in October 2020, that is over one and a half years ago.

Spokesman of the Task Force, Colonel Mohammed Dole, during a press release said Becky and the 5 other women were rescued around Tubun Fulani and Tubun Rago in the Lake Chad axis.

The hostages managed to escape while troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, after which they were being placed on a medical examination and care.

The rescued women were thereafter moved to Maiduguri for further profiling before being handed over to civil authorities and reunited with their families.

The women, according to reports, hail from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe State and were kidnapped between October 2020 and April 2021.

This is not the first time the Nigerian Army will be rescuing innocent women who had spent years in captivity from the claws of Boko Haram terrorists.

Earlier in April 2022, Gallant Military reported that a woman who had been held hostage by the terrorists since 2014 was freed alongside two of her children.

Although the woman, identified as Mrs Shetu Bamai Sangayama, was kidnapped alongwith 4 of her children in 2014, the Army were only able to rescue 2 of them, with the remaining two still held captive by the Islamic militants.

The recent rescue of Becky Inuwa and the other 5 women has continued to garner a lot of reactions and sympathy from social media users.

One of her course mates, after seeing her regain freedom took to his Twitter page and wrote;

“Today I’m celebrating life. I’ve shed tears of joy for This news, this is course mate in ABU, Becky In USA who was abducted by Boko Haram terrorists for over 1 and a half years but has been rescued by our great Nigerian Army.”


Boko Haram in a nutshell:

1- Founded in 2002, the organization was initially dedicated on combating Western-style education.

2- In Hausa, Boko Haram means “Western education is forbidden.”

3- In 2009, Boko Haram began its military operations in Maiduguri.
