Osinachi’s Husband Declared Missing By Prison Officials After Kuje Prison Attack.
A few days ago, Suspected Boko Haram jihadists using guns and explosives blasted their way into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, popularly known as “Kuje Prison” freeing dozens of their jailed comrades and hundreds of other inmates.
According to reports, 879 inmates escaped from the facility, 16 inmates sustained injuries, and 4 other inmates died during the jailbreak.
After a thorough search by security personnel for the escapees, 443 were reportedly recaptured. However, the jailbreak seems to be taking on a new dimension after an exclusive report from Sahara Reporters revealed that Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, was among those that escaped from prison.
A senior prison official who spoke to Sahara Reporters revealed that during their roll call at the prison, the late Osinachi’s husband was nowhere to be found.
He said; “during our roll call yesterday, we discovered that the husband of the late gospel singer was missing.”
Multiple security sources further confirmed that Mr. Nwachukwu was among the inmates that absconded.
Recall that Mr. Nwachukwu was charged in court after he was accused of domestic violence against his late wife, resulting in her death.
On June 3, 2022, a High Court sitting in Wuse, Abuja, remanded the suspect at the Kuje correctional center pending the hearing of the homicide-related case established against him by the Attorney General of the Federation.
The Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for the attack on Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
ISWAP, in a VIDEO claimed responsibility for the Kuje prison break a few hours after the attack saying it had succeeded in “freeing dozens of prisoners”.
