Panic as another bomb explosion hits Kogi

A blast suspected to be a bomb explosion occurred in the ancient town of Kabba in the Kogi West Senatorial District, on Sunday night, reports said.

This is the community’s second bomb explosion in a month.

The explosion was reported to have occurred at a bear parlour near a police station on Sunday night.

The first explosion, which sparked debate about whether it was a bomb or a gas cylinder occured on May 11, at a beer parlour near Lewu Junction in the same Kabba Town.

Out of the 16 people that were injured, three people died as a result of the incident.

However, in the latest explosion, no one was injured, although the structure was severely damaged.

William Aya, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, verified the occurrence and stated that no one was injured in the explosion on Sunday.

According to the police spokesperson, the explosion occurred around 9.15 p.m. on Sunday at one Omofemi Bar in Kabba’s Okepadi Quarters.

“As of now, there are no casualties, but only chairs and tables have been damaged, and the building was severely shattered by the yet to be determined nature of the explosion.”

“Our DC Investigations and the Bomb Detective Squad have already been dispatched to the scene by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Egbuka, to determine the exact nature of the explosion.”

“Our officers and troops deployed to the location have roped off the area until an inquiry determines the true cause of the explosion,” said the police chief.

“It’s sad that criminal groups are attempting to destabilize the current peace in Kogi.

“We will not rest until such elements are brought to justice and recognize the importance of maintaining peace in our community,” he said.

Aya urged residents of Okepadi and Kabba to remain calm and carry on with their daily activities without worry, noting that the police were on top of the situation.
