Kidnapper arrested on his way to supply soft drinks and cigarette to his gang members

The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a suspected kidnapper while on his way to supply soft drinks and other items to his gang members in Lapai local government area of the state.

The suspect, one Shehu Baidu, 18, of Kango Lapai, was arrested following an intelligence report.

The police during the operation recovered five soft drinks, five packets of cigarette and two loaves of bread.

The suspect was apprehended on the 24th September, 2022, by Police Operatives attached to Lapai Division, according to a statement by PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

The statement reads;

“The suspect was arrested for being suspected to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Gurara, Lapai and it’s environ.

“During interrogation, he confessed that between the period of May, 2021 and August, 2022 he conspired with the following gang members: Mamman Mallam, Sidi, Buba, Shehu, Abubakar, Kura-Kura and Chede all male of no fixed address who operate with three AK47 rifles and invaded Gurara Dam Site and Maijaki village, where they kidnapped ten victims while N2.6m was collected by the syndicate as ransom before their release.

“He further confessed that in August, 2022 he contacted one Shehu of Saminaka village via Lapai to purchase five soft drinks, five packets of cigarette and two loaves of bread for him in order to take same to his gang members in their hideout.”

DSP Abiodun said the case has been transferred to SCID Minna for discreet investigation and the suspect has been arraigned in court for prosecution.
