On Monday night, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum paid a visit to soldiers injured in a fierce battle between troops and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at Rann, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon, in Kala Balge, Local Government Area in central Borno State, on Friday.

Zulum talked with and consoled all of the injured soldiers at Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri’s Army Hospital.
Brig Gen. Abdulwahab Eyitayo, General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Army, was on hand to receive the Governor.
Governor Zulum consoled the soldiers, congratulated and commended them for their heroism and patriotism.
He was accompanied to the army hospital by a state assembly member representing Kala Balge and commissioners for Justice, Local Government, and Emirate Affairs.

In a press statement released after the ISWAP Kala Balge attack, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, revealed that insurgents mounted gun trucks and motorcycles and attacked troops stationed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Rann. However, troops overpowered them killing 26 terrorists in the ensuing gun duel.

Troops also captured some combat vehicles from the terrorists. Other weapons recovered from the terrorists include 18 AK 47 rifles, and one M-21 rifle, as well as a large quantity of ammunition.

According to the military, several additional pieces of equipment were also destroyed by own forces.
Unfortunately, two officers and five soldiers paid the supreme price, while three people sustained gunshot wounds” and were transferred to the hospital.
The most important thing going forward is that the military forced the insurgents “to abandon their purpose and leave in disorder.”
