Kagoro Attack: Governor El-Rufai Declares 24-Hour Curfew In Southern Kaduna

Kagoro Attack Update: For fear of reprisal attacks, the Kaduna State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas of Southern part of the state.

This was revealed in a statement by Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

It would be recalled that suspected Fulani Herdsmen on Sunday night attacked Kagoro town, a significant town in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, located in southern Kaduna State, leaving tens of houses destroyed and over 25 people killed.

However, fearing retaliation following the Kagoro attack, the state government have imposed a 24-hour curfew in the region.

Mr Aruwan, in the statement, revealed that the state government is following the advice from security agencies, after a breakdown of law and order in the region.

The step, according to the statement, will aid security agencies in stabilizing the situation in the areas, saving lives and property, and allowing law and order to be restored.

Security services, according to Aruwan, have complete authority to implement the curfew.

“The administration calls to all people of the Jema’a and Kaura local government districts to work with security services to restore peace and maintain law and order.”

He stated, “The government condemns the violence and all acts of lawlessness that have occurred in the area.”

In a reprisal attack, Angry youths allegedly attacked passengers and killed a resident of Kafanchan, according to the Daily Trust.
