Hon. Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing the Giwa West Constituency, was reportedly killed by bandits along the Kaduna-Zaria highway.
Gadagau represented the state’s Giwa Constituency and was the Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Rural Development.
He was said to have been killed by bandits who targeted motorists on the route late Monday night.
However, it was not until Wednesday morning before the legislator’s body was discovered.
Gadagau’s body was discovered near Mawai, a community approximately 13 kilometers from Kaduna State’s capital, according to reports.

Reacting to death of the Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna State Senator, took to his Twitter account on Wednesday morning and wrote;
“A member of Kaduna state House of Assembly Hon Lirwan Aminu Gadagau from Giwa LG is reportedly shot and killed by Bandits on his way to Kaduna.A tragedy,a day.Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun.”

The bandits are also said to have killed another traveller, Sani Dogara. He was claimed to be one of about 30 people kidnapped by bandits who had laid siege to the same Kaduna-Zaria highway.
According to accounts, the highway operation lasted more than two hours.
The Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, confirmed the occurrence and termed the lawmaker’s death as “devastating.”
Gadagau died after a bandit ambush along the Kaduna-Zaria highway, he said in a statement on Wednesday, and his body was retrieved two days later.
“This is a horrible and painful situation.” “We are deeply saddened by this tragic occurrence,” Zailani said, expressing his condolences to the lawmaker’s family and Assembly members.
“At this moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family. Honourable Gadagau was a young and energetic lawmaker with a strong commitment to his area, state, and country. His lively contributions will be missed.”
“Our hearts also go out to others kidnapped in the same operation, with the hope that they would be recovered as quickly as possible by security forces.”
