Bauchi State Police Command have announced the arrest of four (4) suspects including an IT student from ATAB Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic, Bauchi, for processing and withdrawing the retirement benefit of a dead civil servant using forged documents.
In a Press Release, the police PRO of the state, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said nemesis caught up with the criminals after a next of kin of the deceased government worker reported tonthe police that some individuals had claimed the benefits of her late father.
According to the Press Release, On 6th of September, 2022, a lady identified as Samira Jibrin, a next of kin to one Jibrin Adamu who worked with Bauchi state Ministry of Finance until his death on 02/12/2021 reported to the police that she went to process her father’s benefit at Bauchi Ministry of Finance and discovered that the benefit of her late father had been processed and withdrawn using forged documents by some unknown persons.
Upon receiving the complaint, SP Wakil said detectives attached to A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi, swung into action and carried out a preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of 48-year-old Nasiru Samaila who’s also a staff of Bauchi State Ministry of Finance.

Nasiru, a co-worker of the deceased allegedly conspired with three others whose names are given as follows;
- 1- Auwal Jibrin ‘m’ aged 27yrs of the ministry of finance
- 2- Tijjani Mohammad ‘m’ aged 27yrs of state low-cost Bauchi
- 3- Faruq Mohammad Nasiru ‘m’ aged 19yrs an IT student from ATAB Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic attached to the Ministry of Finance on industrial attachment.
According to the statement, the criminals selfishly and mercilessly forged documents and accessed the sum of three hundred and thirty-two thousand (N332,000) naira belonging to the deceased and converted it to their personal use by sharing the retirement benefit of the dead among themselves.
Discreet investigation reveals that the said Nasiru Samaila who utilizes his office of 17yrs experience with the ministry and devised the ill idea of forging documents to claim the deceased’s benefit at the expense of the deserving next of kin got the sum of two hundred and twelve thousand nairas (N212,000.00).
Another suspect whose name was given as Auwal Jibril, who is also serving staff of the said ministry claimed to be a witness to the deceased and got the sum of one hundred thousand nairas (N100,000.00) as his share.
The third suspect, a cybercafé operator identified as Tijjani Mohammed played the role of the guarantor to the next of kin.
While the fourth suspect, Faruq Mohammed, an IT student from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic attached to the said Ministry, claimed to be next of kin of the deceased, end up with the sum of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00).
SP Wakil in the statement said all the suspects has confessed to having played an active role in the commission of the crime and that the sum of three hundred and twenty thousand naira (N320,000.00) has so far been recovered from the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be charged to court.
