Since Prof Chukwuma Soludo took office as governor three weeks ago, there have been a series of attacks on police stations and other government institutions in Anambra.
About six days ago, two persons were reportedly killed when gunmen attacked the headquarters of Aguata local government area of Anambra State at Ekwulobia and set it ablaze. Aguata is Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s local government.
Soludo has repeatedly stated that those responsible for the attacks will be held accountable.
The state police spokesperson DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said, while confirming the latest attack; “unknown gunmen came around 1am, and unfortunately for us, four police operatives paid the supreme price.”
On hearing of the incident, the commissioner of police, CP Echeng Echeng, he said, quickly mobilized troops from all units of the command to the area.
The hoodlums, he claims, were still present when the police officers led by the CP arrived.
According to Ikenga, the police officers’ early presence saved the day, as the hoodlums were effectively repelled.
“We’ve already started gathering intelligence, and we’re hoping to figure out who was behind the attack,” he said.
