According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, Gallant Nigerian Troops ambushed and dislodged IPOB/ESN Fighters in their camps in Orsumoghu.
The statement released by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relation also revealed that the IPOB syndicate that was behind the recent electoral violence in Enugu have been severely dealt with.

According Nwachukwu, on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Gallant Nigerian troops from the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army conducted operations in Azia, Orsumoghu, Lilu Forest, Mbosi, and Uli in the Ihiala and Orsu Local Government Areas of Anambra and Imo States, respectively.
The military exercise was conducted in order to clear criminal havens from where members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), operate.

The Nigerian Army said that during the clearance operations, Gallant Nigerian Troops defeated and routed the rebels, who had set up an ambush against the brave soldiers.
The soldiers then went on to clear Lilu Forest, but were faced with opposition by members and fighters from the proscribed group.

The criminals were once again routed by military, who evacuated Lilu Forest and the surrounding territories previously occupied by the dissidents.
Troops according to the statement discovered decomposed remains of kidnapped and murdered victims placed in a deep well by members of the irredentist groups during the clearance operations.

The unyielding forces encountered and eliminated four ambush positions along the highways of Orsumoghu-Mbosi – Ihiala-Uli, displacing the irredentists from their criminal hideouts.
One criminal was killed while three others were apprehended.

Items recovered include; A Pump Action Shotgun, two live cartridges, two mobile phones, one black Toyota Hilux truck, a polythene bag with substances thought to be Cannabis, and the sum of N1,920.

In a similar vein, operation undertaken by Gallant Nigerian troops of the 82 Division Nigerian Army in collaboration with officers of the Nigerian Police have led to the dislodgment of an IPOB/ESN syndicate that interrupted the recently concluded Local Government Council elections at certain polling locations in Nkanu West, Enugu State.
Troops allegedly recovered 7 AK 47 weapons, 2 Pump Action rifles, 10 rifle magazines, 8 live cartridges, 74 live rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one hand grenade, and a tipper truck containing three corpses.
All this items were recovered during the intelligence-driven operation, which took place outside Centenary Estate Obeagu Uno.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Enugu State Police Command for further investigation.
Residents of South East Nigeria should be rest assured that the Nigerian Army is committed to restoring long-term peace in the region.
