Enugada/Ago-Ika Crisis Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Members of a notorious cult group are said to have attacked policemen attached to the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti cultists unit and successfully freed one of their two (2) arrested colleagues from police custody.
This was confirmed in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
According to him two notorious cultists that have played major roles in various violent clashes around Enugada/Ago-Ika area of Abeokuta in Ogun State, were arrested on Thursday, the 21st of July, 2022.
DSP Oyeyemi said, before the police could leave the area, their colleagues mobilized and attacked the police team and thereafter succeeded in setting one of the detained cultists free.
He said, “To set the record straight, the incident happened when the Anti-cultist team were on routine patrol of the metropolis and sighted two amongst the most wanted cultists who have played major roles in various violent clashes in recent time.
“Identified simply as ‘Akuko Beggar and Slim Cash, the team then rounded the duo up and got them arrested.

“As soon as they were arrested, some of their members around the place mobilized and attacked the police team; they succeeded in setting free one of the suspects simply known as Akuko Beggar, after inflicting several machete cut injuries on one of the policemen, but the other suspect Slim Cash was taken into custody.

“The hoodlums further mobilized themselves in large numbers, armed with dangerous weapons to attack the divisional headquarters at Enugada, but they were repelled by policemen. In the process, three persons were regrettably hit by stray bullets and they are all recuperating in the hospital.”
This statement was issued to counter rumours being circulated on various social media platforms that the police had shot dead a school student while chasing after suspected Internet Fraudsters (Yahoo boys) around Enugada, Abeokuta Today.
Oyeyemi described the rumours as false and not the true position of things.
He said while the hoodlums mobilized themselves in large numbers, carrying dangerous weapons and tried to attack the divisional headquarters at Enugada, the police shot into the air to sacare them away.
Unfortunately, he said, 3 people were hit by the stray bullet and they are all receiving treatment in the hospital.
Additionally he said police delegates led by the area commander Adatan had visited them.
He continued that the war against cultism will continue, no matter the challenges or propaganda embarked upon by cultists and their sponsors.
