76 Year Old Grandpa, 3 Siblings, Brazil Returnee, And Others In NDLEA Net For Drug Related Offences (Photos)

A 76-year-old grandfather, fake security agent and a Brazil returnee are some of the suspects the NDLEA arrested for drug related offences in a week-long operation.

The raids, across eight states and at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, yielded several kilogrammes of Indian hemp and other drugs.

Osagie Robert, a 76-year-old grandpa, was apprehended by NDLEA operatives in Edo state for drug related offences, where a suspected fake security agent, Godwin Ilevbare, a.k.a Edwin Agbon, was also apprehended for bringing narcotic chocolates and cookies from Canada into Nigeria to sell.

On Friday, January 7, 2022, the septuagenarian, also known as old soldier, was detained in Egor, Oredo, for dealing in cannabis.

Godwin on the other hand was apprehended during a controlled delivery of a package sent to Nigeria via a courier company.

In a statement released by the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, on Tuesday, January 4th, undercover investigators embedded in the courier company detained the suspect at his flat in Benin city shortly after he signed for the shipment.

The consignment, which came in from Canada, contained Colorado brand marijuana hidden inside chocolates and cookies weighing 6.491 kilos, with the drug cookies and chocolates weighing 5.566 kilograms and 0.383 kilograms, respectively.

In a related development, Iloduba Augustine, a 48-year-old Ethiopian airline passenger who arrived Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on New Year’s Eve was arrested and placed under observation during which he confessed to having swallowed 58 pellets of cocaine, out of which he excreted 48 pellets, which he delivered to a Kenyan for a fee of N1 million while on transit in Addis Ababa.

He claimed he continued his voyage to Nigeria with the remaining 10 pellets in his stomach, which he planned to sell in Lagos, according to him. The cocaine wraps were later excreted at 10:40 a.m. on January 1st.

On Thursday 6th January, 23-year-old Simon Richard, a 500-level student of the Department of Agric Economics and Extension, Federal University of Technology, Minna, was arrested with various quantities of Loud and Tramadol at Gidan Kwano Talba road, Minna, while on Friday 7th January, a 21-year-old lady, Shidoo Ben, was arrested with 14 pinches of crack cocaine at Jada Hotel, Otukpo in Venue.

She traveled to Benue from Abuja to sell the drugs.

On Thursday, January 6th, a raid at Jigbele Lota camp, Owo area, Ondo state resulted in the recovery of 598kg cannabis and the arrest of Chukwuemeka Azi.

In Ogun state, two suspects, Mrs. Ajoke Samuel, 60, and Ogundairo Taye, 37, were apprehended with various quantities of cannabis sativa in the Itaka and Odo Eran areas of Abeokuta North, while Ibrahim Adamu and Yahaya Mohammed were apprehended with 81kg cannabis along the Ilorin-Jebba expressway on Tuesday 4th January.

Three brothers, Emmanuel Ngyang Jajoang, Timothy Ngyang Jajoang, and Markus Ngyang Jajoang, were detained on Thursday, January 6th, in Kwakwi village, Riyom LGA, with various amounts of cannabis and a locally built firearm.

On Thursday, January 6th, at least two suspects, Sunny Daniel and Joseph Chukwube, were apprehended in separate parts of Rivers state with quantities of Methamphetamine, Heroin, Cannabis Sativa, and Cocaine, as well as N364, 500 cash.

On Wednesday, January 5th, NDLEA operatives supported by soldiers raided a warehouse in Abbi town, Ndokwa West LGA, where they seized two types of cannabis, Loud and skunk, weighing 56.5kg and two suspects, Miss Lillian Echicheli and Collins Uzokwe, believed to have been imported from a neighboring country.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, praised the officers and men of the Edo, Enugu Airport, Niger, Ogun, Kwara, Plateau, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, and Delta Commands, as well as those of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations, DOGI, for beginning the new year with a strong message to drug cartels that the Agency will not waver in its dedication and efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
