What are the different US Army uniforms?

The uniforms and regulations for each branch of the United States Military (Armed Forces) are different.

Today we’ll be looking at the different military uniforms worn by the US Army.

Uniforms worn by the US Army

Soldiers who don the US Army Uniforms carry on the tradition of those who served in the army before them. The Army Values of loyalty, responsibility, respect, selfless devotion, honor, integrity, and personal courage are all embodied in US Army uniforms. The uniform represents respect and tradition, as well as esprit de corps and morale, as well as personal excellence and pride.

(a) The US Army Green Service Uniform

When America was in the midst of World War II, the Army wore the iconic Greens uniform. Today, the Army is reintroducing the uniform worn by the “Greatest Generation” to Soldiers as a professional uniform that honors the United States army’s heritage.

(b) US Army Combat Uniform.

The current combat uniform worn by the United States Army, United States Air Force, and United States Space Force is the Army Combat Uniform. It was first revealed in June 2004 and is the replacement to the Battle Dress Uniform and Desert Camouflage Uniform, which were used from the 1980s to the mid-2000s.

The Army Combat Uniform’s camouflage pattern has changed at least twice since 2010, commencing with the Operation Enduring Freedom, or Multicam, design in 2010.

The Army modified the ACU pattern to the Operational Camouflage Pattern in 2015, and it became compulsory on October 1 of that year.

The hues of the new pattern vary depending on where it’s used — for example, desert vs. forest — but it generally uses a four-to-six color palette that includes greens, beiges, browns, tans, and greys.

(d) The US Army Blue Service Uniform.

A blue uniform was used as the daily wear service uniform from 2010 to 2020. The Army has worn blue uniforms since the Revolutionary War, and the blue uniform has been reintroduced as a formal dress and ceremonial uniform. It had taken the place of the old green service uniform, which had been worn by all officers and enlisted men since 1956.

(e) US Army Physical Fitness Uniform

The Army Physical Fitness Uniform (APFU), which was introduced in 2013, is modular, with different sections that can be merged or removed depending on physical training conditions. The uniform consists of a track jacket, short- and long-sleeve T-shirts, track pants, and flexible running trunks, all of which are stylized in black and gold. On October 1, 2014, the uniform was released. Soldiers are merely required to acquire commercial running shoes because no standard shoe style is established. However, “toe shoes” (such as the Vibram FiveFingers running shoe) and shoes with profane or vulgar emblems are prohibited.
