A 30-year-old man identified as Bamidele Taiwo was arrested by officers from the Lagos State Police Command’s Safer Highways unit for illegally possessing a Chinese-made pistol.
The culprit was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search in the Alagbado area of Lagos State, near the border between Lagos and Ogun states.

According to a statement released by Lagos police public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Bamidele had two other accomplices who were with him at the time of his arrest.
The suspects, according SP Hundeyin, were on the same motorcycle as Bamidele, however, they took off as soon as the police found a Chinese-made pistol in their bag.

The PPRO did not say how the suspect obtained the Chinese-made pistol, but one thing is certain: weapons trafficking and widespread availability are the root causes of armed robbery, cultism, communal conflicts, and political instability, and they pose a threat not only to national security but also to long-term development.
The widespread proliferation of small arms is contributing to alarming levels of armed crimes and militancy.
Nigeria is seeing an increase in gun-related crimes as a result of little or no effort to prevent the entrance of these light weapons.
The Lagos state police command have said Bamidele and the exhibit have been taken to the State Headquarters for additional investigation as efforts to apprehend the fugitive suspects continue.
