According to the Chairman of Kurmi local government area, Amamzalla John Danladi Joseph, the foreign soldiers have been going about harassing and intimidating the villagers, pretending to be searching for their citizens who had fled into the Nigerian communities.

It would be recalled that Cameroon are currently facing a civil war following the quest for self independence by Ambazonian agitators in some parts of the country. The situation in the country has forced some of its citizens to flee and take refuge in some parts of Taraba state, particularly in Mairogo and Tosso villages.

According to Mr. John Danladi, the LGA chairman Kurmi, under which the villages are situated, “residents of the area were repeatedly harassed and intimidated by the Cameroon soldiers who claimed they were searching for Ambazonian agitators that fled Cameroon at the heat of their clash recently and took refuge in some communities in the Nigerian State.”

The LGA Chairman also claimed that the State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, on hearing the development mandated him and the Commanding Officer in charge of the Nigerian Army 93 Battalion Takum council of the state to visit the affected villages.

He further noted that the Governor was displeased with the acts of the foreign soldiers and he reassures the people of the affected villages of the commitment of the state government towards protecting their lives and property from external aggressions such as this.

This is indeed a tricky situation. On one hand you have secessionists fleeing from their country into Nigeria as refugees, and on the other hand, you have Cameroon forces in complete disregard for Nigeria’s territorial sovereignty cross into Nigerian communities, harassing residents without fear of repercussion. This is indeed some the Nigerian Federal Government should look into.
