An 18-year-old boy has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly killing a mother and her infant child.
According to a statement signed by State Police imagemaker Suleiman Nguroje and made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, the adolescent was arrested on Monday, June 6.
The police said in the statement that “on Monday, June 6, 2022, the Command apprehended Volamu Kalbes, an 18-year-old male, for the alleged horrific murder of a 36-year-old mother, Talatu Usman, and her one-year-old child in Lamurde Local Government Area of the state.”

The suspect and the victims were both natives of Sabon Layi village in the Lamurde LGA, according to the Command.
It went on to say that the suspect reportedly attacked the woman and her child while they were bathing by the river.
“The victim was alleged to have resisted the suspect’s effort to rape her, but it was in vain, as the boy overpowered her and pressed her down into the river, where she died.”
“After killing the woman, the suspect seized the boy who was weeping uncontrollably on the riverbank and pressed him down into the water as well till he died,” according to the statement.
The culprit was allegedly arrested by Lamurde Divisional Police Headquarters officers after the victim’s husband, Alhaji Usman Abdul, reported him.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, has directed further inquiry into the situation, according to the statement.
