1 dead, 7 injured as bomb blast rocks beer parlour in Yobe

One person have been reportedly killed in a bomb blast at a beer parlour in the troubled northeastern Nigerian state of Yobe.

The Sunday evening’s blast took place at a beer parlour known as “Gidan Amarya” in Gashua, the headquarters of Yobe State’s Bade Local Government Area.

According to reports, one person was killed and about seven others were injured.

Residents of the area reportedly told Daily Trust correspondence that a huge sound was heard across many parts of town around 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Abdu Sheriff, a shop owner close to the Area, said many people scampered for safety.

“I heard the sound when we were doing our Isha prayers, and as soon as we were done, we ran into our houses to hide.”

“After a few moments, we were informed that the explosion had occurred in a nearby beer parlour.”

The incident was confirmed by local government officials.

Sanda Kara Bade, the Executive Chairman of Bade Local Government, said he had dispatched a security team to the location and ordered an investigation into the cause of the explosion.

According to him, the injured victims were evacuated to a government facility for treatment.

It is unclear the group behind the explosion, which happened two days after suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly slaughtered about 10 persons at ‘Kwari’, a brothel in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe.

Attacks on two bars in Taraba State were claimed by the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) last week.

Residents of Yobe have requested that the government consider banning bars and beer parlours because they are becoming targets of attacks.
