Since 2015, military counter-insurgency operations have mostly pushed Boko Haram out of Nigerian territory it controls.
However, militants retain control of a few isolated villages from which they undertake raids against liberated areas, primarily in search of food.
The Nigerian Army on the other hand is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to rid the North-East of these Islamist Insurgent. A total of 470 Boko Haram fighters, including more than 50 senior commanders and their families, surrendered to forces of Operation Hadin Kai in the southern part of Borno State around three weeks ago, precisely on February 23, 2022.
This came after scores of rebels were reportedly slain during military ground and air bombardments of their sanctuaries and hideouts in the Lake Chad region.
