According to the Nigerian Army, Boko Haram Iswap terrorists were ambushed by gallant troops of 5 Brigade during a routine patrol near Damasak town in Borno State.
Damasak is a garrison town and the capital of the Mobbar Local Government Area (LGA), with a population of approximately 56,000 people, including approximately 10,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) living in camps and the host community.

The town has seen a series of armed attacks by Boko Haram ISWAP terrorists, forcing the evacuation of humanitarian personnel and displacing thousands of civilians.

The attacks on the town have led to the destruction and damage of life-saving humanitarian assets and infrastructure, as well as the suspension of life-saving humanitarian assistance, especially in the areas of food, water, and health care.

However, the narrative is changing from what we used to know.
Before now, it was the terrorists that ambush villages, towns, communities and military bases. But more recently, it is the military that are ambushing the terrorists’ hideouts, leaving them in disarray and disorganized.

Part of the military ambush on terrorist hideouts is the Saturday ambush in Douro village near Damasak.
In a statement, the Nigerian Army wrote;
“Troops of 5 Brigade on fighting patrol to BHT/ISWAP enclave in Douro near Damasak in Borno State on Saturday 29 Jan 22 infiltrated the terrorists location. During the attack terrorists fled in disarray abandoning their guntrucks & weapons. Aggressive patrols are currently ongoing. More details later..”
