Again, Boko Haram Attack Chibok, Abduct 17 Girls, Kill Vigilante Commander

Boko Haram Attack Chibok community again and according to reports, the dreaded Islamist terrorists abducted 17 girls and killed the vigilante commander of the area by slashing his throat.

According to Sahara Repoters, more than a dozen girls have been kidnapped by Boko Haram militants in Borno State’s Chibok Local Government Area.

The insurgents also kidnapped the vigilante commander and slashed his throat in their most recent attack on Chibok community.

The dreaded insurgents were said to have initially kidnapped 25 girls, eight of whom escaped, leaving 17 presently In their custody.

According to reports, the insurgents stormed the town on Thursday night after firing gunshots sporadically.

When the terrorists attacked Pemi Village near Chibok, civilians reportedly fled into the forests and some into surrounding communities.

The insurgents allegedly set fire to at least 20 houses in the community, including a branch of the Nigerian Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa Church.

According to a resident of the area, their main target was the community’s vigilante commander. The vigilante group had waged an unending war on the rebels in that axis.

Chibok is a Borno State Local Government Area in Nigeria, located in the state’s south. It has a land area of 1,350 km and a population of 66,105 people, all of whom are Kibaku by tribe, according to the 2006 census. The Kibaku language is spoken by the majority of the villagers.

Boko Haram kidnapped almost 300 girls, the majority of whom were Christian, from Chibok in April 2014.

A lot of the abducted girls have since been reunited with their families. At least 57 of the girls managed to escape on the night of their abduction while another 3 were found by security agents.

The insurgents attacked Chibok once more in May 2014.

Twenty-one of the girls were released in October 2016, and another 82 on May 6, 2017. The 82 girls were allegedly switched with Boko Haram prisoners (prisoner exchange situation), according to the government. Another one of the girls managed to flee from the terrorists on May 27, 2017.

Boko Haram was believed to have taken control of the town and imposed Sharia law in November 2014. A few days later, the military declared that the town had been reclaimed.
