Gallant troops of the Nigerian Army in the counter-insurgency operation in the northeast have captured large weapons and ammunition from B’Haram and ISWAP terrorists during an aggressive offensive on the insurgents’ locations in Borno State.

Other items recovered include rubber slippers belonging to the terrorists, tyre tubes, walkie talkie, and camouflage scars.

The NA, in a statement posted on its Facebook page yesterday, said the weapons and other items were seized around Dikwa-Gamboru highway in Borno State.

Before they are rehabilitated, the Nigerian army and other stakeholders are expected to profile the surrendering fighters and their families. Boko Haram has been fighting in northeast Nigeria since 2009. Its attacks have spread to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, eliciting a military response.

The group has also become splintered, with one faction pledging allegiance to ISIL (ISIS).
