Cpl Ebu Gambo, a Nigerian soldier with the Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT), has been reportedly killed by Benin Republic security operatives on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident happened when the Benin Republic Security operatives attacked Kabo, a border town in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A police officer, identified as Inspector Olaniyi Akintunde was also shot during the incident.
Both Nigerian security operatives were allegedly attacked by their Benin Republic counterparts after intercepting four motorcycles carrying sacks of foreign parboiled rice.

The incident was also confirmed by a police signal obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters on Thursday night.
The signal read,
“GRATEFUL BE INFORMED THAT X ON 25th MAY 2022 AT ABOUT 1130HRS X A TEAM OF OPERATIVES OF JOINT BORDER PATROL TEAM E OKUTA X WHILE ON PATROL LED BY LT A.O YUSUF (NA) ALONG KENU-KABO ROAD IN BARUTEN LGA OF KWARA STATE WERE ATTACKED BY SECURITY OPERATIVES FROM BENIN REPUBLIC AFTER INTERCEPTING X FOUR MOTORCYCLES CONVEYING BAGS OF FOREIGN PARBOILED RICE X TWO (2) OPERATIVES NAMELY INSPECTOR OLANIYI AKINTUNDE AND X CPL EBU GAMBO (NA) X SUSTAINED GUNSHOT.
“HOWEVER CPL EBU GAMBO DIED ON THE SPOT X HIS BODY HAS BEEN RECOVERED AND WAS TAKEN TO OKUTA.”
According to the signal, the injured Inspector Akintunde is said to be receiving treatment at an unidentified hospital in Kwara state.
