Bandits reportedly stormed the new Abia livestock market in Omuma Uzo, Ukwa West council area, on Tuesday night.
Following the demolition of the Waterside livestock market on Ikot Ekpene road in Ogbor Hill, the cattle dealers had shifted to the new area to ply their trade.

According to the government, eight people were feared dead during the invasion, which also left several people injured and goods damaged.

Alhaji Musa Iheakaram, patron of the Cattle Dealers Association, acknowledged the incident and stated that they are currently looking into the details of the matter.
When contacted, Barr. Eze Chikamnayo, the Commissioner for Information, said the government is on top of the situation and that security agencies have been deployed to the area.
“Yes, there was a livestock market attack. However, there are still a lot of unknowns.
“We’re looking into the incident, and security is keeping an eye on things.
“The Commissioner of Police, Soldiers, and others have been dispatched to the location to assess the situation and uphold the rule of law.
“Normalcy has now restored to the area,” remarked the Commissioner.
