In Katsina state, a notorious bandit leader known as ‘Yellow’ is said to have executed one Abdullahi Iliya, a 30-year-old member, over the murder of an abducted victim.
The deceased bandit allegedly shot and killed the victim after he refused to be kidnapped by a group of terrorists who attacked his community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina state on March 3.
According to the police, a seven-member terrorist group entered a community located along Dogon Awo, feeder road and told the 30-year-old victim, Umar Abdullahi Ankalele, to follow them, which he refused.
The deceased bandit, Iliya, is said to have shot and killed the victim for refusing to follow their orders.
The bandit leader allegedly shot and killed Iliya in retaliation for the victim’s death.
Two suspects, Nasiru Mohammed, 27, and Abubakar Iliyasu, 25, both from Faskari council, were arrested in connection with the incident, according to state police spokesman SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the situation on Tuesday night.
“On March 3, 2022 at around 2.30 a.m., seven (7) bandits armed with AK 47 rifles attacked and kidnapped one Umar Abdullahi Ankalele, “M,” aged 30yrs, along Dogon Awo feeder route, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina state,” Isah claimed.
“During the kidnapping, the victim fought back and refused to follow the kidnappers. As a result, he was shot and executed by the kidnappers.
“Nasiru Mohammed, 27, and Abubakar Iliyasu, 25, both of Faskari Local Government Area, were detained and confessed to the crime over the course of the inquiry.”
“They further admitted that seven (7) of them went to the residence to abduct the aforementioned Umar Abdullahi under the command of one “YELLOW,” a notorious bandit leader, but when he refused to follow their orders, one Abdullahi Iliya, 30, a member of the group, shot and killed him with an AK 47 weapon.” The ring boss, who was not pleased with the alleged Abudullahi Iliya’s actions, then shot and killed him.
Abubakar Iliyasu also admitted that the dead bandit was his blood brother and that he had been involved in various terrorism-related acts in the region.
The two suspects also cited ‘Yellow,’ Samaila, Ibrahim, and Sani, all of Yankara, as well as Dajin Yar-Malamai, who is from Faskari Local Government Area, as other terrorists who took part in the March 3 operation.
“Investigation is underway,” said SP Isah, adding that efforts were being made to apprehend the five terrorists who were alleged to be on the run.
