The on-going clamp down on criminals in Nigeria has landed 4 notorious arms dealers who have been fingered for supplying arms to crime syndicates in in Jos, Plateau State and from other locations across the country in police net.
The 4 notorious arms dealers who were paraded at the Nigerian Police Headquarters, along with other criminals openly confessed to their crimes.
In a press release, Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP OLUMUYIWA ADEJOBI explained that the suspects were arrested following the IGP’s recent charge to the men of the Nigeria Police Force to be dauntless in the fight against crimes and criminality in the country.

CSP Adejobi said members of the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT) arrested the four notorious arms dealers and recovered 57 AK47 weapons and a significant cache of ammunition from them.

According to him, the suspects, identified as; Hamza Zakari (as Hamzo), 20 years old, Abubakar Muhammed (aka Fancy), 22 years old, Umar Ibrahim, 25 years old, and Muhammed Abdulkarim (called Dan-Asabe), 37 years old, all males from Jos, were arrested after reliable intelligence was received on their criminal activities in Jos and its environs.

He also noted that the suspects, who openly confessed to their involvement in arms dealings and other criminal activities, have been identified as one of the primary linkages for the supply of weaponry and ammunition to other criminal elements terrorizing the state and other areas of the country.

He said their collaborators are also being pursued by the investigating team, and they are closing in on them.
In a related development, CSP Adejobi also revealed that the FIB-IRT operatives following a tip-off smashed and arrested three alleged gun runners in Taraba State’s Ibi LGA.
He said that during interrogation, the suspects, Bello Sani, Venab Puncat, and Yusuf Nahoda, all of Ibi Local Government Area in Taraba, admitted to having purchased one AK47 gun and one SMG rifle for N900,000 each.
A coordinated attempt has been launched to apprehend their accomplices and reclaim the exhibits, he said.
While praising the FIB-IRT’s achievements, Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, psc [+], NPM, fdc reminded the people of his administration’s commitment to fighting common enemies of the nation who are hell-bent on causing pains, tears and agony to Nigerians.
He also called for continued support for the Nigeria Police Force and the security community, saying that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force will step up its efforts to ensure public safety, peace, and security through an intelligence-led, technology-driven, and robust community–based partnership for a better security architecture in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, when the investigations are completed, the arrested suspects will be charged in court.
