Two of the victims were members of the Civilian JTF, while the others were internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Two mortars reportedly landed near Wulgo market, where people had congregated to receive food distribution cards, while the other three mortar bombs landed in open areas within the town.

Both Sen. kashim shettima, the former governor of Borno State and Prof. Umara Babagana Zulum in company of other top Government officials were among the dignitaries that traveled to Gomboru and Ngala to supervise distribution of relief materials to IDPs.
In recent weeks, the Nigerian military had undertaken series of air strikes within some of these areas pushing many iswap militants to choose new hiding positions.
Despite the military’s efforts, terrorists continue to carry out pockets of attacks against soft targets, particularly employing IEDs, rockets, and mortars.
