Ikenna James, a 23-year-old man, has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing his 29-year-old neighbor, Oluwatoshin Adefisayo, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, at their home in Ogijo, Ogun State.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect conspired with his friend, who is now at large, and they broke into the deceased’s apartment in the middle of the night via the roof while she was sleeping, raped her, and strangled her.

Oyeyemi revealed that other neighbors, including the suspect’s parents, woke up the next morning and discovered that the young lady’s apartment had been broken into.
Oyeyemi added that the neighbors quickly summoned the local vigilante to the scene, and while at the scene, Ikenna was seen climbing down from the ceiling where he had been hiding after the evil crime.
According to the PPRO, he was swiftly restrained while a distress call was sent to Ogijo divisional headquarters police. The Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, quickly led his men to the scene and got the suspect arrested.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the crime, Oyeyemi said.
However, he said Ikenna did not commit the crime alone. He had an accomplice who’s currently on the run.
According to the police PRO, the suspect also told the police that after raping the victim, they decided to kill her because she recognized them.
He explained that Ikenna’s parents, who likened his arrest as “good radiance to bad rubbish,” have given up on him because he is the family’s black sheep.
They also pleaded with the police authorities to ensure that he receives the necessary penalty.
Meanwhile, Lanre Bankole, the state commissioner of police, has ordered that the suspect be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Inquiry and Intelligence Department’s Homicide department for further investigation.
He also ordered that his collaborator be tracked down and brought to justice.
