Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Mariam Ibrahim, for allegedly killing her husband’s senior wife, Hafsat Ibrahim by hitting her in the head with a wooden pestle.
SP Ahmed Mohammad Wakil, the police public relations officer of the command said in a statement that on the 22nd November 2022, a 40-year-old man identified as Ibrahim Sambo of Gar village Pali ward, Alkaleri LGA came to Maina-maji Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that on the same date his second wife Maryam Ibrahim (the suspect) armed with a wooden pestle entered into his first wife’s room and hit her on the head with it.
SP Wakil said the victim suffered serious injuries to the head and was evacuated to a Primary Health-care center at Gar village where she was certified dead by the Medical Doctor.
He said on receiving the report, a team of detectives attached to the Command swung into action and arrested the suspect.
He said during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime.
According to him, the suspect confessed that on that fateful day, Hafsat Ibrahim (the deceased) sent her son 5-year-old son identified as Abdulaziz Ibrahim with a lump of fried meat to give to the suspect “Maryam Ibrahim.”
He said after eating the meat, the suspect started feeling discomfort in her stomach which caused her to vomit the meat.
Since the incident happened In their family house, the suspect called one Faiza Hamisu of the same address, and told her exactly what happened and the said Faiza told the suspect that probably it was an ulcer and gave her ulcer medicine.
Not satisfied with Faiza’s suggestion, the suspect provocatively went to her kitchen, picked a wooden pestle, entered the first wife’s room while she was asleep and hit her on the head with it.
