According to the Oyo State Police Command, some of the gunmen who abducted Christopher Bakare, the manager of a farm owned by the late Adebayo Alao-Akala, the state’s former governor, and other citizens have been apprehended.
On Friday, the leadership disclosed this information.
According to reports by DAILY POST, three (3) kidnapping activities have been reported in the state in the past two weeks.
It was gathered that Bakare was kidnapped on Saturday, July 16, in Jabata in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state, from the farm of the late Alao-Akala.
Similarly, on Friday, July 22, one Baba Rasheed, the proprietor of a private hospital, was also kidnapped in the same local government area.
In a related development, on July 28, an hotel owner and one of his employees were also abducted in the Aba community of Ogbomoso town.
However, according to the state police command, some suspects have been arrested in relation to the most recent kidnappings.
The suspects were reportedly arrested on Friday, according to a statement from Adewale Osifeso, the state police command’s public relations officer.
Eight individuals were arrested, according to Osifeso, in relation to the kidnapping of Bakare and the proprietor of a private hospital.
The eight suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapped duo of Bakare and Dr. Rasheed are; Anjola Abubakar, Sani Abacha Abdullahi, Sani Abacha Jafaru, Sale Mohammadu, Isah Seriki Muhammed, Aliu Jafaru, Umar Abubakar and Mustapha Baruguma.
The command said, “To this end, Today, Friday 29/07/2022, the Command accounts for some of its recent feats as it upholds its statutory mandate of protecting lives and property through the systematic fusion of intelligence-driven investigations.
“Recall, one Taiwo Christopher Bakare ‘m’, Farm Supervisor of TDB Farm ltd, and Dr Abdulrasheed Oladoye ‘m’ both of Jabata and Gbede communities under Surulere Local Government Area of the state were abducted on the 16th and 22nd of July, 2022.”
Osifeso while speaking further said that nine other suspects were also arrested in connection with abduction in some local government areas in the state.
The suspects included; Umar Jale Usman, Abdullahi Mohammed Sani, Jamiu Jubril, Kayode Kolade, Leggi Usman, Jamiu Iroko, Sule Bello, Umar Shuaibu, and Kali Weti.
The command maintained that the nine suspects were responsible for the abduction of some residents around Iganna, Iwere-ile, and Ijio town in the Iwajowa Local Government Area of the state.
The exhibits recovered from the nine suspects included; one Dane gun, one expended cartridge, a detachable head hood (black), a pair of slippers, and the sum of N12,000.
All suspects have confessed their various involvements in various criminal activities according to the statement.
“While in another development, operatives of the Command attached to Iganna Divisional Police Headquarters have arrested a Kidnapping syndicate responsible for abductions around Iganna, Iwere-ile and Ijio axis under Iwajowa LGA,” he added.
