Shinzo Abe, 67, Japan’s former Prime Minister and a towering political figure, was shot dead while campaigning on Friday, the 8th day of July, 2022.

Abe, the country’s longest-serving leader, was reportedly shot twice as he gave a speech in the city of Nara at 11.30am.

A startling video of the attack shows how careless security personnel were taken off guard by the attacker.

Another horrifying footage shows the murderer Tetsuya Yamagami patiently waiting behind Abe as he prepares to strike.

Questions have been raised concerning Japan’s security protocols for prominent political figures and their readiness for attacks involving firearms in the wake of the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe was campaigning for a candidate from his Liberal Democratic Party for this weekend’s upper house election when the shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Friday at an intersection in front of the Yamato-Saidaiji train station in Nara.

A space at Abe’s back looks to be empty in a video shared on social media. In the video, Tetsuya Yamagami, the suspect, came up from behind, and shot him twice from close range.

According to the police, Yamagami used a homemade gun to carry out the heinous attack.

Police said, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, admitted to shooting Abe.

Yamagami, who is unemployed, told investigators he holds hatred toward a certain group that he thought Abe was linked to. However, the Police have not named the group.

According to police, the weapon was a gun-like object that was 20 centimeters (or about 8 inches) wide and 40 centimeters (or about 16 inches) long.
